• Welcome to The Northern Free-Style Karate Association Web Site.

The Northern Free-style Karate Association is one big karate club which, for practical reasons, trains in many different venues.

The N.F.K.A. was formed in 1990 and has grown from strength to strength. We now have Thirteen schools throughout the North East of Great Britain. Our association is, without doubt, one of the largest martial arts organisations in the North East.

Affiliated to the AMA we have a growing reputation, by being friendly, yet insisting on discipline and high standards in all aspects.

We practice a sporting style of karate with emphasis on freedom of movement and incorporating the best of traditional and modern systems. Emphasis is placed on the quality of instruction, producing well disciplined and technically excellent students. Karate is an activity that the whole family can participate in, and family participation is well catered for within the N.F.K.A.

Karate training will not just increase your fitness levels, it will also increase your confidence. We have numerous testimonies from parents indicating that their children have excelled in both academic and sporting activities since taking up karate.

Here are a few from the Cramlington Club

My daughter and I have been training in Northern Freestyle for almost 3 years. The instructors at our club are very caring and motivating. They work very hard to make sure that we enjoy the classes and are safe when learning Karate, my youngest son aged 5 has just started the Little Ninja's class and his teachers at school have already commented on his increase in confidence, my daughter aged 9 was being bullied, but without having to hit anyone the problem seemed to disappear alongside her increase in ability and grade.

All of the instructors and senior grades help us in the classes to help us improve. Its just like a family, with big brothers and sisters helping us improve. Everyone, children and adults, have a great time when they are there.

My experience in NFKA has benefited me in a number of ways.  As a police officer the training and experience I get from NFKA is great, when I go to work I do not know what I will have to deal with or experience, the training keeps me both physically sharp and mentally focused.

When I look back I realise how much I've learned at karate, it wasn't just the karate that I enjoyed, I learned how to respect myself and others, I developed confidence to reach for any goal, I found the focus and developed the discipline to achieve at work and at university. Interviews dont bother me now, I used to get very nervous, but now I know that if I work hard and do my best I can achieve.
