- Is Karate for me?
We teach Karate in a friendly and safe atmosphere, everyone was once a beginner including your Instructor.
We accept children from about 5 years old, from 4 years old in our little Ninja's classes (depending willingness to learn) in our adult classes we usually have members with a wide range of ages, male and female, from teenagers to those in their forties and fifties!
All we ask is for a reasonable standard of fitness and a willingness to learn in a friendly but disciplined environment.
If you have not been involved with any energetic activities for some time or have had health problems in the past which may cause concern please consult one of the instructors or your doctor before commencing training.
Ages between 5 and 13 usually train in the junior class with everyone else training in the senior class. In fact we actively encourage parents to join in with their children and have many family groups that regularly train together.
The atmosphere in our classes is nothing short of electric and most people are extremely impressed on their first visit to the class. It is this atmosphere and environment which attracts so many students to this form of Free-style Karate.
Karate is a great way of exorcising the stress of work, as well as a great way of exercising.
What do you need?
Enthusiasm, open mind and a willingness to learn! We will do the rest as long as you try hard and train regularly with a strong and positive attitude!
- No experience is necessary.
- You do not need to be fit to join.
- Fitness develops through regular training.
- You will be taught everything you need to know.
A bottle of water, training shoes and loose clothing is all you require for your first few lessons.
You are welcome to come along and watch the class however the best way of finding out if Karate is for you is to join in. This gives you a feel for the structure of a lesson and helps acclimatise you to the correct etiquette.
Children should be accompanied by at least one of their parents/guardians as we feel it is important for them to see first hand what is involved. Why not join in and make it a family activity?
Parents will see how the disciplined but friendly atmosphere encourages and motivates the children to work for their coloured belts.
The first few classes might feel a bit strange as you will be introduced to new skills. Afterwards you may experience a little stiffness in your muscles as you would with any new exercise routine.
Within a few short weeks you should notice an increase in your level of fitness balance and coordination! By this time you will be starting to understand why Karate has so much to offer and hopefully get "the bug" like so many of us who have gained so much from Karate for many years!
Which Class is for me?
Our classes are structured in such away that we are able to take beginners on a weekly basis. Simply go to our club pages and pick the nearest class that suits you.
The Syllabus
The syllabus is well structured and both challenging and exciting and it is not long before the children and adults alike can be seen to be growing in confidence.
Gradings
The syllabus allows the students to take a grading examination every 3 months progressing through 10 belts before black belt which will take a minimum of 3 years with regular training.
Students who have attended regularly, preferably a minimum of twice per week, will be informed of when a grading is taking place and will be told by their instructor whether they are ready to try for their next grade. This is not a guarantee of success and students should be prepaired to re-sit their grading if they do not achive the expected standard.
Testomonials
Parents and teachers frequently report on the improvement in the behaviour of children who train regularly at our clubs. This is because of the emphasis placed on good manners and discipline. Due to the structure of the lessons which include fitness, flexibility and co-ordination many of the children go on to excel in other sporting activities.
Both children & adults become more confident this can result in children take more part in class discussions at school and adults having the confidence to advance through carrier opportunities.
Will I get hurt?
Safety is paramount in our classes with all instructors holding a first aid qualification.
The injury rate in Karate is low compared to many other sports however being a contactsport sooner or later one will get some sort of injury, however injuries are often minor.
